Description

This object is a globular star cluster located in the southern constellation of Sagittarius, at a distance of almost 30,000 light years from Earth. It is one of the fainter Messier globular clusters and also one of the smallest from our viewpoint, only about one-third the size of the full moon. It contains about 125,000 stars. There appears to be a slight predominance of dust towards the upper right side of the core in this image.
